“Stumped”

My latest creation called “Stumped”. The idea for this photo came to me last week when I was visiting my family in Arizona. I thought how difficult would it be to create a scene in which someone threw themselves into a train track and just their limbs were severed. You can watch a speed edit via the YouTube video below.

Project Heroes

Website Image

There is a group of photographers (http://photogswithacause.com) spread mainly throughout the Inland Empire that has put together a project called “Project Heroes”. It was created to raise some money for the families of Detective Jeremiah MacKay of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and Office Michael Craine of the Riverside Police Department.

Even though I do not live in the Inland Empire anymore, I decided I would like to contribute to this project anyway.

Some of the photographers, myself included, come from law enforcement families and the recent tragedy really hit home for us.

Project Heroes Information

We are encouraging parents to bring their children dressed up or have props from your child’s hero. This could be a super hero, fire or police officer, or even dressed as mom and dad. The idea is to come, have a good time, and get some photos taken of your children.

Date and Location

My photo shoot will be held one day only at the Oso Community Park in Mission Viejo on March 9th from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Each session will be approximately 30 minutes long and you will receive 10 full resolution digital photos with print release forms.

The fee is $100.  100% of the proceeds will be donated to the families of MacKay and Craine.

Signup

Unfortunately, I cannot accept walk-ins.  If you are interested in participating, please use my online scheduling website to pick a time.

If you are in the Inland Empire and do not want to make the trek down to Mission Viejo, then I suggest you check out the other photographers participating at http://photogswithacause.com.

I would appreciate it if you could share this with your friends and families.

End of Times

In the future, the planet is in ruins and the atmosphere is completely unbreathable. A rare element known as Blue Matter becomes one of the Earth’s most rare and valued resource. In order to survive, groups of people have formed small colonies to protect each other. They nominate the healthiest and strongest people to scour the land with one primary objective — find and dig up Blue Matter no matter the cost.

My Secret Little Friend

SpecialFriend

I have been absent from my creative photography for a few months now due to work, etc. I am slowly trying to get back into the groove of things and I kicked it off with this image above.

A young boy who has a miniature gorilla has his imaginary friend. He spends most of his time hiding in his bedroom fort and telling stories with his friend.

Renaissance Pleasure Faire – Fairy

The family and I went to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale this weekend. It was my first time going and I had a great time.

Here is a photograph I took of one of the faire fairies.

How to be a MASCHINE

I finished a photo shoot (see it here) and Photoshop this weekend and here is the process.

The following post will show what I started with and the process of getting to the end result at a high level.

Start to Finish Star field
MACHINEHOW[3]

STARHOW[3]

The Star Field

When we decided to put a “space” feel to the image I made the decision to attempt to create it from scratch instead of using some stock image.  The following images show the layering and process I went through to create the star field that appears behind the model.

Added the first layer of stars

Star01

Added more layers and clusters.

Star02

Added some star glow and planets

Star03

Added a crescent moon

Star04

Main Photo Manipulation

The following photos show the process from first shoot through to the final image. We knew we wanted the image to have a dark sci-fi look to it.

The first image was a good exposure so that I could pull details out of it if need be.

MASCHINE (1)

The second photo was to focus on the dark side of the image and allow me to capture specific highlights.

MASCHINE (2)

Created a mask of the subject.  We also replaced the face because we liked the face of the well exposed image more than the dark image.

MASCHINE (3)

Captured a photo of the MASCHINE that will be used to embed in his chest.

MASCHINE (4)

Created a mask for the MASCHINE and placed it in the proper location.

MASCHINE (5)

Added the light bursting out of his chest and MASCHINE. Good mix of oranges and blues.

MASCHINE (6)

Added glowing eyes and flares.

MASCHINE (7)

Placed the star field.

MASCHINE (8)

Added some levels, curves, color balances, etc. to bring the image together. Click the image to see the final representation.

MASCHINE

My brother is a DJ/Producer and asked me to do a photo shoot for him for an upcoming project. After about 18 hours and 77 layers here is the final result and we are both pleased with it.

He started using MASCHINE about a year ago which is a pattern based sequencer and he considers it the heart and soul of what he does now.

View On Black

With the exception of the flares (browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=lens+flare#…) in the eyes, the rest of the image was created by me.
